About Pacific Northwest Fuel Mate™
A cruise planning app for boaters cruising the Pacific Northwest — Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and Hood Canal today — with fuel intelligence, a marina fuel price directory, and a growing collection of boating resources built in.
Our Mission
Pacific Northwest Fuel Mate exists to make boating in the Pacific Northwest easier. We want to help boaters:
- Plan cruises and build each leg of the route.
- Estimate fuel needs and costs for every leg before they leave the dock.
- Compare marina fuel prices along the way.
- Save boats, cruises, cruise legs, and fuel purchases to plan the next adventure.
- Learn from fellow cruisers and share local boating knowledge.
- Discover trusted boating resources.
Community First
Marina fuel prices and boating information are often difficult to locate, inconsistently published, subject to frequent change, and dependent on local knowledge — the kind of thing one boater picks up by word of mouth and another has no way to find.
Pacific Northwest Fuel Mate is built to be a community-oriented resource: boaters, marina operators, and marine professionals can all help improve the usefulness and quality of the information here. We don't claim real-time fuel prices, complete marina coverage, independently verified information, or a large or established community — we're asking you to help us build toward that, one report and one correction at a time.
Public Beta
Pacific Northwest Fuel Mate™ is currently in v1.1 Public Beta. This beta is intended to validate the current tools, gather user feedback, improve marina and fuel information, and identify the capabilities most valuable to Pacific Northwest boaters — expect some rough edges, and expect this app to keep changing based on what we learn.
Long-Term Vision
Beyond fuel prices and trip planning, we'd like Pacific Northwest Fuel Mate to grow into a place boaters can find trusted marine professionals and services — potential areas include marine mechanics, diesel technicians, surveyors, electrical and electronics specialists, heating and air-conditioning technicians, plumbing and sanitation specialists, fiberglass and paint professionals, canvas and upholstery providers, detailing and maintenance services, boating education, cruising resources, and other trusted marine professionals and services.
None of this exists yet — it's a direction we're considering, not a current feature.
Where the prices come from
Every price shown comes from one of three sources, and every one of them is reviewed by a human before it goes live — nothing is published automatically:
- Automated research. A crawler checks marina and fuel-dock websites for published prices. Every result is recorded as a candidate observation and reviewed by an admin before it can become a live price.
- Direct data entry. Admins enter or bulk-import prices from primary sources such as a marina's own posted rates or a phone call to the fuel dock.
- Boater reports. Signed-in users can report a price they saw at the dock, optionally with a photo. An admin reviews each report before it's approved and published.
Prices are labeled Fresh within 7 days of verification, Aging from 8–30 days, and Stale after 30 days — always call ahead to confirm before you rely on a price, especially anything Aging or Stale.
See something wrong?
If a price looks out of date or wrong, sign in and use the “Report a price” link on that marina's page — every report is reviewed by an admin, and reports with better evidence (a recent photo, a specific date) are reviewed faster.
